Adult Insight Program (AIP)

At InsideOUT Writers, our commitment to the transformative power of writing has led us to expand our services beyond juvenile halls and youth authority facilities to include various CDCR adult institutions in Central and Southern California, as many of our juvenile students were tried as adults and received long sentences. This expansion allowed us to support them in this daunting transition to adult facilities, many times while they were still teens, but we also discovered our writing program was needed and welcomed by all ages housed there.

 

By offering our Writing Program at Pelican Bay State Prison, Avenal State Prison, Pleasant Valley State Prison, Kern Valley State Prison, and California Institute for Men to name a few, we ensure that our participants have access to a trauma-informed, healing-centered space regardless of where they are in the correctional system. Our focus on restorative justice remains at the heart of our program, guiding individuals through the process of confronting their past, finding their voice, and working towards a more positive future.

 

This continuity of care and support is crucial for fostering lasting change and personal growth. Through creative writing, we empower incarcerated individuals to explore their emotions, tell their stories, and develop greater self-awareness and empathy. By providing writing classes within the adult systems, InsideOUT Writers remains dedicated to breaking the cycle of trauma and incarceration, reducing the recidivism rate, and providing safer communities.
